Abuja, Nigeria, West Africa – Eighteen young leaders from across Nigeria’s North Central region have successfully completed the Promad Foundation Social Accountability Fellowship, a groundbreaking program aimed at empowering youth to drive transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.
The fellowship, running across six states and the Federal Capital Territory, was organized with the support of the Nigerian Youth Future Fund (NYFF). Over five weeks, participants aged 18 to 35 underwent intensive training in governance, public policy, data literacy, artificial intelligence, participatory budgeting, freedom of information laws, and community mobilization.
Daisi Matthew Omokungbe, Founder of Promad Foundation, described the program as a “turning point” for the fellows. “They now have the knowledge and tools to monitor public projects, engage government stakeholders, and galvanize their communities toward meaningful change,” he said.
Emmanuel Sani, Programs Officer at Promad Foundation, added, “Young people are the drivers of good governance. This fellowship ensures they understand their rights and responsibilities, enabling them to actively participate in monitoring projects, influencing policy, and driving civic change.”
The program’s selection process focused on innovation and community impact. Applicants submitted videos explaining why they wanted to join the fellowship and how they intended to make a difference in their communities. Special attention was given to inclusivity, with both male and female participants, including persons with disabilities.
Breakout sessions during the fellowship allowed participants to identify local challenges and design practical solutions. They learned how to hold government accountable and ensure public projects were effectively implemented—skills that are now being carried into their communities.
Peace Dangana of the Nigerian Youth Future Fund congratulated the graduates, saying, “These 18 fellows represent the next generation of leaders who will champion transparency, accountability, and civic engagement in Nigeria. We are proud to support their journey.”
This milestone marks the expansion of Promad Foundation’s successful programs, following pilots in Nasarawa and Ondo States. The foundation’s vision is clear: to cultivate young leaders who can transform governance and enhance service delivery across Nigeria.
