Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology on Thursday, commissioned an Electronic Vehicle (EV) Charging Station, describing it as pivotal in advancing country’s transition to sustainable energy solutions.
He said the project is a bold stride towards cleaner mobility and is a direct reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and Nigeria’s commitment to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, enhancing energy security, and promoting green innovations.
“This project is more than just an infrastructure milestone—it is testament to our nation’s resolve to embrace technological advancement in energy and transportation, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji said at the Commissioning in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
“By fostering strategic partnerships like this between the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC), we pave the way for a more sustainable, eco-friendly future, reducing carbon emissions and aligning Nigeria with global trends in electric mobility”, he added.
The Minister called for synergy towards expanding the initiative across Nigeria and ensure that electric mobility becomes a viable, widespread reality in the country.
“The Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology remains committed to policies and initiatives that drive technological advancements, attract investments, and create sustainable employment in the green economy”, Chief Nnaji enumerated.
Director General of the ECN in his remarks, alluded to the project being in line with the presidential declaration on climate change, Nigeria’s clean energy policy towards net zero GHG emissions, through the use of solar energy, transitioning towards low carbon economy and reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels in the transport sector.
Dr Mustapha Abdullahi said the project is a fast-charging technology, a typical electric vehicle thay will be fully charged within thirty minutes and can concurrently charge four vehicles, both compatible and generic products.
He commended the Minister for his “unflinching support to the ECN, as it strives towards playing it’s part in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, through wart out energy production, policy, management or planning projects and programmes of the ECN.
The Electric Vehicle Charging Station is a 5 Skilowatt Solar-Powered facility that has capacity to run on both power supply, as well as Solar PV. It is designed with a 20 kilowatt Lithium Battery and BVA intelligent inverter to ensure quick charging, and maintainability.
