Abuja, Nigeria — February 25, 2026 – Amb. Dr. Tizhe Joseph Kwaji, founder of the Help The Amputee Foundation, has been honoured with two awards in recognition of his humanitarian contributions to persons living with disabilities across Nigeria.
The awards — the Leadership Award of Excellence 2026 presented by the Coalition of Nigerian Women Forum for Peace and Good Governance (CNWFPGG), and an additional recognition by the Female Students Association of Nigeria (FSAN) — were conferred at a ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Kwaji said his humanitarian journey was inspired by the 2014 bomb blast in Mubi, Adamawa State, which left many residents amputated and displaced. He noted that the experience prompted him to begin providing assistance to victims, a mission that later led to the establishment of the Help The Amputee Foundation, officially registered in 2023.
He stated that the foundation has since provided support to over 100 amputees in Mubi, more than 150 in Karmajiji, and additional beneficiaries in Yobe State. According to him, the interventions include provision of palliatives, financial assistance, and rehabilitation support.
Dr. Kwaji added that the foundation also focuses on economic empowerment through vocational training programs such as shoe-making and soap production, aimed at helping beneficiaries become self-reliant.
“In every disability, there is ability. We are committed to ensuring that amputees are not left behind,” he said.
Presenting the award, Esther Famba, Nasarawa State Representative of CNWFPGG, said the recognition was based on Dr. Kwaji’s commitment to humanitarian service, social inclusion, and community development. She noted that the foundation’s activities have contributed to restoring dignity and improving the livelihoods of many beneficiaries.
Famba further emphasized the importance of partnerships in expanding humanitarian efforts, stating that the coalition remains open to collaboration to strengthen community-based interventions across the country.
Also speaking, the National President of CNWFPGG, Ambassador Ruth Ishaku Bang, expressed the organization’s willingness to work closely with Dr. Kwaji. She said the coalition looks forward to benefiting from his guidance and experience in advancing its objectives.
Speaking on behalf of the Female Students Association of Nigeria, Chairlady, Comrade Mary Timothy highlighted the importance of career guidance, leadership, and community development in shaping future generations. She noted that the recognition of Dr. Kwaji was aimed at inspiring young people, particularly students, to follow in the footsteps of achievers who have demonstrated commitment to humanitarian service and national development.
Comrade Mary Timothy described Dr. Kwaji as a leader whose work reflects outstanding values and dedication, adding that his contributions continue to educate and motivate young Nigerians.
In his response, Dr. Kwaji described the awards as a motivation to intensify his efforts, noting that the recognition serves as a reminder of the need to do more for vulnerable populations.
The event brought together stakeholders, humanitarian actors, and representatives of civil society organizations committed to promoting inclusion, empowerment, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
