The Director of the Department of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, has praised staff of the department for their resilience, dedication and exceptional service throughout the year, describing them as heroes of environmental resilience.
Speaking at the department’s end-of-year gathering, Bokani emphasized that the department’s work goes beyond technical interventions, noting that every assessment, flood mitigation effort and coastal restoration project directly contributes to saving lives and securing the future of vulnerable communities.
He lauded officers who worked under challenging conditions, including difficult terrains, unpredictable weather and demanding schedules, yet continued to deliver with professionalism, creativity and unity. He said their commitment has strengthened the department’s role in safeguarding the environment and supporting national development.
The Director also expressed profound appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Environment for his visionary leadership and continued support, as well as the Permanent Secretary for providing strong administrative guidance that sustains the department’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of two official Hilux vehicles in recognition of outstanding commitment and dedication to duty. The vehicles were presented to Ali Frederick Ogbole Assistant Director Erosion Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department and Mr. Kunle Awojemila, Deputy Director, Department of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management.
Bokani encouraged staff to remain united and committed in the coming year, assuring that the department will continue to rise to emerging challenges and deliver impactful outcomes that will make the Ministry proud.
