Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has secured the release of stranded Nigerians in the Central African Republic (CAR). This is in response to a viral online video depicting the stranded Nigerians maltreated in the CAR.
In a statement issued by the Commission, it said the victims were deceived, got their passports retrieved and abandoned. It also said they were forced to work for 11 months without pay. They had urged the Nigerian government to intervene and come to their rescue.
Officials of the Nigerian Embassy in the CAR were contacted by the authorities in NIDCOM, calling for intervention and immediate release.
Also, passports of the victims were retrieved, while a bus was sent to convey them to the embassy in Bangui, in an eight hour drive.
With NIDCOM revealing that the agent in question has been identified, it appreciated officials of the Nigerian Embassy for their swift response.
